Arachova is a mountain town on the southern slopes of Mount Parnassus in central Greece, known for its stone houses, narrow streets, and elevated position above the surrounding valleys. The town rises steeply along the mountainside, with traditional buildings, small squares, and stairways connecting different levels. Its location places it close to the archaeological site of Delphi and the Parnassus National Park, while the Parnassos ski centre lies higher on the mountain. The nearby Delphi archaeological site occupies a dramatic slope overlooking the Gulf of Corinth and contains the remains of the Sanctuary of Apollo, the ancient theatre, and the stadium. Higher on Mount Parnassus, the Parnassos Ski Centre offers winter sports, while the Corycian Cave provides another natural and archaeological destination within the mountain range.

Arachova is known for regional foods that reflect the pastoral traditions of central Greece. Formaela cheese, a firm sheep’s or goat’s milk cheese traditionally produced in the area, is one of the town’s best-known specialties and is often grilled or served with local dishes. The region also produces honey, olives, olive oil, herbs, and meat products. Small shops in the town sell locally made textiles, cheeses, sweets, and other agricultural goods. Tavernas serve hearty mountain dishes alongside regional cheeses and meats, making local food an important part of Arachova’s identity.
